We're at Oral Roberts University... so no cussing today. We played Little Big Town in basketball today. We went 2-2 today. I guess we'll leave game 5 for Los Angeles (that's the last LBT show that we'll play).
Not much to report for news. We have a long run tonight bound for Denver. I'm feeling a bit under the weather. I need to get some rest. All activeness & not enough rest is starting to wear on me.

Today took place on the Choctaw Indian Reservation. They built a brand new activity center. I think they play sports events there & such. Maybe every now & then they have a concert.
This was one of the few Little Big Town dates left. We don't have much responsibility during these opening dates. We don't get much time to do our thang so we spent the day working out & such. We played some basketball today. 2 on 2 - Wyatt & coy vs. Jimmy & me. It's a pretty good matchup. After BBall, Jimmy tried to kill us again with the evasive cardio. There were times that I couldn't get enough oxygen in my body.
The show was good. These opening slots are usually 30-45 minutes. It's almost like a greatest hits show. Little Big Town threw a cool party after the show for us. It was Mexican food & margaritas. Blake Shelton & Miranda Lambert hung out with us too. They don't live too far from here. The only problem was that the reservation is a dry reservation. They didn't like us partaking so they kicked us out & we resumed in our busses.
I went to sleep pretty early though considering the madness. We've got some trash talking going on for tomorrow's LBT-ZBB basketball matchup. Can't wait for it!

Fayetteville is cool. It's like a tiny Athens, GA. Lotsa old buildings in the downtown main drag that have been host to countless little businesses over the years.
We hit up Blue Moon Music today. It is a fantastic vintage guitar store. A wonderful, unexpected surprise. They had tons of vintage amps... probably 200+. Not much in the guitar column - but it was still cool visit.
We worked out at World's Gym. It was a normal workout day - but Jimmy tried to kill us during the last 15 minutes. It was a bunch of very evasive cardio workout. It was like we were at an NFL training camp.
The show tonight was great. However, 6-7 fights broke out in the crowd. It was a rough on out there - but I think they enjoyed it.

Michelle dropped me onto the bus at midnight last night. George drove us through a killer storm last night. It was thick with rain. It actually woke me up in the middle of the night... a few times.
It was an absolutely breath-taking day in Memphis today. We had a great lunch at The Hard Rock Café. I've never really said that before - but it was good. We had an easy load-in.
We did a 7pm, live internet chat with the band. We answered questions submitted by fans. It was fun & actually flew by much faster than expected.
We were the headliner tonight so it was easy, peasy, lemon squeezy! We played The New Daisy Theatre - right on Beale Street. I finally tweaked out my Two Rock for the Firebird. I was extremely pleased!
Not much else to report. We're justa startin' another week & a half run through the gantlet. See you tomorrow!

... well, Prior Lake, MN. It's about 20 minutes from downtown Minneapolis. We're at an Indian reservation casino. I used to concern myself with two details when playing a casino: showroom quality & buffet quality. This casino had good reports on both - plus good quality on my new criteria: workout facility.
This was another show with Little Big Town. I'm starting to make pretty good friends with these guys. They're currently recording their next album & have asked me for some songs. I'll put something together for them while I'm home.
We're about to embark on a 17 hour trip (add 4-5 hours for 'bus time'). Minneapolis to Atlanta is no joke!

... or also known as "Bracket Disaster." I was 22-5 & I lost the last 5 games of today's match-ups. I know it's early, but I was excited about being ahead. Oh well.
It seems that all of these Little Big Town shows have a comfortable pattern to the day. I get up... eat breakfast, rock the gym or the court, come back for soundcheck, shower and/or eat, play show & show and/or eat. That's the whole day. You'd be surprised how fast it goes though. I certainly am surprised.
Nothing out of the ordinary to report. I talked to my accountant today - he finished my taxes & it doesn't seem like I'm going to have it 'easy' this year. Oh well - you can't win 'em all. It could be worse - I could have made so little money that I don't even have to pay taxes. I at least feel like a contributing part of society.

This is the blog, dawg!
I thought this blog deserved an introduction.
I had a killer breakfast here at the casino. It was cold this morning. I've been kinda spoiled over the past two years. During the past two winters I spent most of my time on cruise ships, good weather parts of the country, or in Hawaii on my honeymoon. We finally have hit a rough patch of midwest coldness in the winter.
It was a normal noon load-in, 4:30pm soundcheck, & 8pm set time.
I got to sit & chat with the folks from Little Big Town. They're really cool. Some of them are actually from Georgia too. We know a lot of the same people.
Our set was pretty good. The crowd was a little quiet, I thought. I guess they really weren't there to see us... but usually we win them over. Oh well. You can't win 'em all.
Tomorrow's another day.

Adrian College. I believe it's a methodist school 45 minutes away from Ann Arbor, MI. I even get bad cel service here. Kinda in the middle of no where. Our luck has finally run out regarding the weather - it was 40º & crappy today.
It was a fun day though. We played basketball in two different sessions on their school's court where their varsity plays. We sound checked with "Killing in the Name Of" by Rage Against the Machine. The spread was amazing today for lunch & dinner.
Zac & Wyatt finished a new song today too. All in all, nothing to complain about.
We, again, opened up for Little BIg Town. We played their rec center. It was kinda boomy, but I thought it sounded like a good rock show instead of a nice clean country show.
Tonight's movie choice on the bus was "Friday." It's been a minute since I've seen it. I love that damn movie.
I also rolled my ankle (the sixth time since the Cayamo Cruise last month). It's the first time that I've felt it hours after it happened though. It looks like I might need to buy some basketball shoes - well, I do have birthday coming up?! Anyone?!

I got up early today... maybe too early for my own good. I got minimal sleep. Our bus call was 11am & I had to shower & do laundry before we left the premises.
So I did all that, had soundcheck, & then cleaned the bus. When everyone started getting ready to go work out, I crawled in my bunk & slept for a couple of hours. My lack of sleep, new workout regimen, & over all exerting of myself this morning was a little much for my taste.
After my nap I was on point though. We played an amazing set. Kid Rock was hangin' with us. He got up & played with us during the encore. We did "All Summer Long" & as he walked off stage we busted into "Devil Went Down to Georgia." It was a memorable St. Patty's Day.
Might I add that Kid Rock, surprisingly, was a grand fellow. I think way more of him now than I did yesterday.

Every one was officially up by 1pm. By 2pm, we jogged a mile & a half to the nearest park with a basketball court. We played 4 on 4, then 3 on 3, then full court 4 on 4. All in all, about 5 games of basketball. I love basketball. Watching it's okay, but playing it is fantastic.
Worn out, I walked back to the bus - showered - relaxed for a minute. At 7pm we went for Mongolian BBQ. It was sketchy at first, but ended up being a great meal.
After that, we went to see "Watchmen" on IMAX. I forgot how much I love IMAX. I will go out of my way from now on to watch blockbuster movies on IMAX. It rules.

Ah, Indiana. I'm a big Indiana fan.
We had another show opening for Little Big Town tonight. We had a great workout today too. 'Bows & toes... I don't suggest it. It is 3 minutes of pure hell. It's basically putting all your weight on your toes & your forearms. Kinda like a push up - but you just stay "up" the whole time. 3 minutes. If you can do it - you're in shape.
We had another slammin' show tonight. I think we're converting a lot of first time watchers. Most of these folks are Little Big Town fans. I'd say that we have a lot of new fans after tonight & last night.
Day off tomorrow. Can't wait. I have an awesome job!

Today was fantastic. We had a jam packed day. A work out - 3 full games of 3 on 3 with the guys from Little Big Town - a sound check - a shower - a great show. All topped off with a ton of Jim's Rib Haven's short ribs in hot sauce. It was stone cold fantastic. I put them at the top of the list of my favorite road food.
I'm taken good care of myself & having a good time. I am missing my woman though.

Springfield... not the Simpsons' Springfield, but it'll do. It was exciting - why? We pulled up to a Convention Center & we were the headliners. I must admit, I was a little scared to fall on our face with 2,200 seats to sell out - in Springfield of all places. Well they crammed 2,500 in there tonight. We're on our way.
Wyatt, Jimmy, & I went to the Springfield YMCA. It was so fun. We played a bunch of inner city kids at basketball. Man, I forgot how fast black kids are. Their mechanics were weak... but I think that they learned some things.
The show tonight was straight up slammin'. We implemented some new things in the show. Everything was gang busters tonight.
Everything is looking up! Watch out world - here comes ZBB!

I should probably get me an apartment here in Nashville (just kiddin). It seems like I'm here every other week. We are honored to win our first ACM award for Best New Group. Now we'll go up against the winners for Best New Female & Best New Male for Best Artist. We played a show (taped for TV - March 19th on GAC at 8ET) with Julianne Hough & Jake Owen. Each act got to play 3 songs & hopefully it will prompt fans to vote for us.
We changed busses tonight after the show. We got OUR bus. It freakin' rocks. It's a brand spankin' new Prevost XLII with a slide out on the driver's side. Two TV's in the front lounge & two TV's in the back lounge. Why two TV's you ask? I asked the same question & was met with the answer: one person could play a video game while everyone else could watch a movie.
Anyway, really excited over here. Zac's starting me on a juicing program tomorrow. I hear my first drink is a beet-ginger. We'll see how that goes tomorrow.

I rolled out of my bunk & we were already here. Pete has been such a good boy. He's never bugged me to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. I figured he would've done that.
Anyway, we set up & had a bit of a rehearsal. Jimmy, Jake, & I had a brutal workout. I'm gonna feel it for quite a while.
Our crowd was rowdy tonight. I'll take rowdy vs. laid back any day (unless you're a singer-songwriter).
I'm loving everything about this whole experience! I hope you enjoy your job as much I enjoy mine.

First off, I finally realized my dream of eating at Pancake Pantry this morning. I've always heard about it from other people, but never made the trek to that side of town. Trust me... it's worth it. It may have been the best breakfast that I've ever had.
We had a pretty crazy schedule today. It may not sound like a lot but it moved really fast. We did a run though at the CRS showcase in the Nashville Convention Center. We played a few tunes in the Verizon Wireless Studio Bus. It was really cool. THey had a fully functional recording studio inside a tour bus. The only problem was that when you wanted to record, you had to turn off the air conditioner & the bus engine because os the excess sound. It heated up in there in 5 minutes flat probably 20º.
The CRS (Country Radio Seminar) set was pretty good. We played three songs for a room of Country Radio programmers & DJ's from around the country. We were a part of the New Faces of Country Showcase. Other acts included Chuck Wicks, James Otto, Kelli Pickler, & Lady Antebellum.
Onto Jacksonville, FL. My dog Pete is having a blast. He's behaved himself rather nicely.

Okay, so I've been slacking. Here's my motivation:
After Bossier City, LA we came home for a solid 5 days. I thought I'd take a little vacation from writing during that time. Then we left a day early for Cayamo. We spent a day in Miami. I started working out with our fiddle player, Jimmy de Martini. And when I say I started working out, Jimmy has been kicking my ass. I'm working even harder than I worked with a personal trainer 5 years ago.
Cayamo was awesome, however, no internet access - so I didn't write then. We played 3 times. Some of us jammed late on the 2nd night (hours actually). We finished that night with Zac on guitar & vocals, Jimmy on fiddle, Matt Mangano on bass, & me on drums. The whole experience was great. We played basketball on a short, full court on the top of the ship. In addition to my sore muscles, I developed some blisters on my feet from stopping & cutting while playing basketball.
Darryl Scott was inspiring. That's all I have to say.
We flew home early from St. Thomas. We have some pretty important stuff in Nashville. I brought my dog, Pete, this morning to Nashville. He's never been on a bus before but he's doing pretty well with it.
We all attended the BMI #1 party today for "Chicken Fried." It was pretty cool. Lot's of folks flew from around the country to celebrate it with us. We also sound checked for tomorrow's gig. We're playing for the Country Music Seminar in the New Faces of Country Showcase. It's a mouthful - but actually a big deal.
Two big pieces of news - we'll be on Leno in the next few weeks - & we won the ACM (Academy of Country Music) Best New Group or Duo. Lot's of exciting stuff.
During our night off tonight, we went to see Blackberry Smoke at 12th & Porter here in Nashville. I got up to play "Seven Spanish Angels" with them. What a bunch of great guys.
